Salsa Tipica offers the following courses at several levels:
Salsa
Salsa is a fusion of different Latin American dances such as the son, rumba, danson, mambo and cha cha. Salsa is constantly developing. Hence the many styles of dancing salsa. The style that is most common worldwide and also in Holland is the L.A.-style. But also the Mambo on 2 is quickly gaining popularity.
The basic consists of 3 steps in every four beat measure. The beat on which one does not step might contain a tap or kick, or weight transfer may simply continue with the actual step not occurring until the next beat. The option chosen depends upon individual choice and upon the specific style being danced.
One of the steps is called a 'break', which involves a change in direction. Different styles of Salsa are often differentiated by the timing of the break step (L.A.-style/on 1″ or NY Mambo/on 2″). After 6 weight changes in 8 beats, the basic step cycle is complete. While dancing, the basic step can be modified significantly as part of the improvisation and styling.

Bachata
Bachata is a music genre and dance that developed in the Dominican Republic. De music consists of a four beat measure and especially the typical guitar sound stands out. The theme of bachata songs is mostly heartbreak and tragic loves stories. Nowadays a lot of bachata music contains influences of R’nB, pop and reggaeton.
Styles
There are different styles of dancing bachata. The Dominican Style and Bachata Moderna are the two most popular styles in Holland. In the Dominican Style footwork and improvising on the music are very important. Dance partners hold each other’s hands and turn patterns are held to a minimum. In the Bachata Moderna the classical dance frame and turn patterns are more common.
Both styles are taught during our bachata course.
